Well folks it is already that time again. We have been so busy building the new pit we really have not had much time to compete. Our first attemp this year was in Oenaville. This is the first competition on the new pit and I must say it worked great. It seems I still need to learn how to cook on it. The judges in Oenaville were not too impressed but then again it was a CTBA event. The main thing is we got to try out the new hardware.
Our second showing was on more familar territory. We competed at the Penelope VFD Cookoff. Things went a little better, placing 4th place in beans and making it to the final table with the brisket. Congrats goes out to Linda Kolar "Grand Champion".
Itasca - Now it is somewhat entertaining to see how competition cookers handle the unexpected gully washers that somehow magically appear just when you don't want them! No kidding!!! There was a good six inches of water rolling down the street we were set up on. So the fire got too cool, beans wouldn't boil, chicken was pretty much raw, but the rain let up in time for the ribs and brisket to finsh. But shockenly, nothing placed.
McGregor - This was the first time for us at this particular cookoff. Was a lot of fun. Those folks really did a good job. We took home 4th place chicken and 5th beans.
West KOC - As usual Cody did a great job organizing the event. My nephews had a great time in the Kids cookoff. We made final table with chicken and ribs. NO CASH!!!
Crawford - I swore I would never do another CTBA but these folks did a good job. Everyone actually acted like civil adults. The park there in Crawford is a great place for this type of event. Made final table with chicken and ribs.
